Before you begin, consider the following:

  • Many web browser technologies are moving away from or limiting support for legacy plugins. As a result, only Internet Explorer supports WMV playback.
  • Playback speed control is only supported on some playback platforms, depending on the player layout, browser type and media playback element.
  • If you are unable to play the presentation, contact your Mediasite administrator to make sure that the appropriate media type is available and supported for your playback platform. Additionally, have your Mediasite administrator verify HTTP streaming is enabled on the Windows Media Server on port 80.
  • Remember to configure pop-up blockers to allow site pop-ups. Otherwise, presentations will not appear.
  • There are additional considerations when using IE browsers to playback presentations:
    • If your IE browser does not support media source extensions, you will need Adobe Flash to playback Smooth Streaming content.
    • IE requires Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher OR Microsoft Silverlight® 5 for Windows Media playback.
    • IE 8 requires Microsoft Silverlight 5 for MP4 playback.
  • If you are playing back presentations on Linux servers using Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, take the following into consideration:
    • HLS does not playback in Opera. The Player will use Flash instead.
    • HLS does not playback in Firefox.
  • To playback presentations on Linux, the latest versions of Firefox (v.54) and Chrome (v.59) require the VLC media player's codec.
